Meet Dr. Cedric D. Shorter

Dr. Cedric Shorter is a native of Louisiana and joined Neurosurgical Associates of Tampa Bay in 2013 where he practices general neurosurgery with a specialty in complex cranial procedures. Dr. Shorter treats a variety of spinal and peripheral nerve problems such as herniated discs, stenosis, tumors, fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve compression.  He employs many minimally-invasive techniques to perform spinal surgery and has been trained in cervical artificial disc replacement. However, he has a passion for treating complex cranial pathology. He sees and treats a variety of brain tumors and pituitary tumors along with compressive nerve syndromes, such as trigeminal neuralgia. Also, he has treated numerous cerebral vascular problems such as cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVM’s).

Dr. Shorter attended Northwestern State University in Louisiana  where he received a Biology degree in 1997. He went on to receive an additional degree in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2000. In 2005, Dr. Shorter obtained his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He also completed his neurosurgery residency at LSU-Shreveport in 2012 under the guidance of internationally renowned, Dr. Anil Nanda. After his residency, he completed a fellowship in Skull Base/Cerebrovascular surgery at Goodman Campbell Brain & Spine in Indianapolis, Indiana under the mentorship of Dr. Troy Payner in 2013.

He is an active member of the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS). As a member of the NASBS he served as a moderator for the pituitary session at the 2015 NASBS meeting. He has also been appointed to the NASBS Surgical Simulation Task Force for 2016-2018. Dr. Shorter has numerous academic publications and presentations on various topics at state and national neurosurgical meetings.

At Neurosurgical Associates of Tampa Bay, Dr. Shorter works to provide his patients with the highest quality of medical care and is devoted to implementing the most innovative techniques and therapies into the practice. He was the first neurosurgeon in the Tampa Bay area to employ fluorescein, a dye used to illuminate brain tumors and is certified to use Brain Path™, a minimally invasive system utilized to remove deep-seated brain lesions with minimal disruption of normal brain tissue.
